This oversize collectable work of art is 100% wool and wire - a needle-felted character by Stacey Huffstutler of Spice Carnation Creations, with the assistance of her cat Spot. Each figure is made by hand with a ‘one-of-a-kind’ feel. An internal wire allows you to gently pose the neck and arms, so you can wrap Doug's arms around his acoustic guitar. The detailing on these is spot on to capture Doug's 90s period correct features, including econo haircut, Airwalk Ones, blank red shirt, and guitar decal created from the packaging of those addictive animal cookies coated in pink frosting. Only 7 exist on planet Earth.

about

The title track was recorded on cassette via the old boombox-to-boombox method in Iowa City, and unearthed from a hard drive in Omaha so many years later. This retrospective pulls the artist's handpicked favorite tracks from all three home-recorded Laces albums, and clarifies the sound through Van Sloun's professional studio mastering process. I get choked up upon hearing Doug's ode to his deceased penpals from the Weezer fan club in "Carli", and never get tired of rocking out to his personal battles against the machine in the popcorn factory on "All Out" - goddamn!
~ Mike

I did a search for "cringecore" and it actually turns out this IS a genre of music. Though what I heard didn't make me cringe nearly as much as most of my Laces music does. But it may make sense... As I've grown older, I've realized that emotionally I've always been about ten years behind my actual biological age. What that means is most of the Laces songs were pretty much written by a 13-year-old. Because of this, I never imagined I would ever put together a Laces "best of" collection. What I always considered to be the "heavy hitters" also sported the highest cringe factor when I would go back and listen. It wasn't until I decided to approach the music in a different way that I discovered there actually are some lovely moments. For the first time, I listened not for things I wish I could change, but for songs that made me smile just as they are. Usually these were tunes that didn't try quite as hard. They also revealed a more varied palette than I remembered. Two instrumentals! Actually three counting the new track, "Wooden Change," which has been sitting on hard disk for more than 20 years, waiting for a project to come along and give it a happy new home. So what's with the name "Wooden Change," you ask? It sounds like "wouldn't change." I hope you enjoy this hand-picked collection of special moments from my musical adolescence.
