about

"Creeping Charlie" was supposed to be a far less ubiquitous name than the generic "Michael Hoff." Hey, it's a beautiful flora...

These tracks are from one of those "barely" released creeping charlie tapes that the incomparable Unread Records alluded to in the messaging about Unread Release #259 - creeping charlie : "delayed replies : 1995-2006". A couple of these tracks were collected in that sequence (albeit from a different master source).

All of the "bells" tracks were co-written by and played by Greg Peterson. Find his discography, including both contemporary and mighty feeble back-catalog gems over here: grgptrsn.bandcamp.com

Likely recorded on Todd Clark's Panasonic RQ-J, and on a Tascam Porta07 with Radio Shak mics, depending on the song, but "4-String & Organ" could have been from a Sony microcassette recording.

All songs written and recorded by the Creeping Charlie from Ottumwa, IA, from 1995 to 1997, with help from friends as noted below.

"Bells & Guitar I, II, Reprise"; and "Lost Bells" - Ottumwa bedroom-window improv by Creeping Charlie on guitar and humming, and Greg Peterson on bells and whistling. A few excerpts of this recording appeared as secret segue tracks on the anything-goes-indie-rock North Of Dean cassette in 1995, but the source with more of the instant songs intact was recently discovered, hence the "lost" bells... found. Turn that luck around.

"Slimy Hands" - by Kevin Tibodeau on guitar and Creeping Charlie on Kevin's uke. ...might be Kevin's first song/recording ever! Kevin then lent said ukele for a few days, resulting in the creating of the song "Smokescreen" done across town on N. Dodge (in Iowa City). Hope you are happy and have Mango-slime covered hands, wherever you are, my dear friend.

"4-String & Organ" done on a visit to Opal Mae Wilson's house in Ottumwa on her tenor guitar and organ. It was the type of organ with a sweet built-in drum rhythmer. These organs were common in US households during a different time in our country.
