  • Doug, Unknown Bedroom-Pop Icon Action Figure with Guitar Accessory + Complete Laces four album Discography

Limited edition gently poseable needle-felted lo-fi bedroom-pop hero bundled with Wooden Change digital and all three Laces full length digital LPs. Download codes sent separately.
Your 6.75 inch tall figure, one of the seven pictured, comes in an attractive 8 x 4 x 4 plastic & archival paper display case and ships safely via Priority Mail within the US.

This oversize collectable work of art is 100% wool and wire - a needle-felted character by Stacey Huffstutler of Spice Carnation Creations, with the assistance of her cat Spot. Each figure is made by hand with a ‘one-of-a-kind’ feel. An internal wire allows you to gently pose the neck and arms, so you can wrap Doug's arms around his acoustic guitar. The detailing on these is spot on to capture Doug's 90s period correct features, including econo haircut, Airwalk Ones, blank red shirt, and guitar decal created from the packaging of those addictive animal cookies coated in pink frosting. Only 7 exist on planet Earth.

about

This was one of my earliest songs, written on the stoop of 224 N. Dodge Street on a hot summer evening in 1995. That summer was so damn hot, and I had no air conditioning in my house, my car, or at work. (I would sneak into rooms at the hotel after hours to get relief.) The t-shirt I had just put on after a shower was still too much and the stitching was scratching my neck. I had recently summoned the courage to ask out a girl who worked at the front desk only to get the "I have a boyfriend" response, which I always suspected could be a lie. I think that day I had almost asked out a different girl but ultimately decided "fuck it." This was the first song I recorded on my Roland VS880 digital 8-track, and the process was maddening. It probably took me a month, which was a long time back then. Matchbook Shannon recorded a version of this song titled "Shirt Tale," which was to go on a split 7" with Tripmaster Monkey and a couple other Iowa City bands, but that never ended up happening. I wish I had that recording. My favorite part of this version is when my vocals get "scratchy" when I sing the "itchy and scratchy" line. That's just because I accidentally recorded over the original vocal and had to redo it and couldn't find the same vocal sound the second time around.

Hear Doug's original version on the reissue of MF253 - Forever for Now.
